At first sight, Frank and Janet’s marriage is the picture of perfection, but underneath lies a deeper truth – one of buried secrets and repressed desires that begin leaking out when Frank starts to dream.
Using a sumptuous blend of character masks, magic realism, arresting imagery, puppetry and an imaginative soundscape, Pictures of You weaves together a surreal world across the thin line between dreaming and reality, between sanity and insanity. It is a love story that explores the pleasure, pain, mistakes and forgiveness that govern our responses to being in love.
Presented by a conspiracy of clowns, in association with from the hip: khulumakahle (FTH:K), the production is devised and directed by Rob Murray, performed by Liezl de Kock and Dorian Burstein, with visual design by Janni Younge – 2010 Standard Bank Young Artist Award winner for theatre – and sound design by James Webb.
Pictures of You is at the Baxter Golden Arrow Studio, Cape Town, from 1-13 February. Monday nights are Baxter Mondays at R60 for a ticket and light meal. Tuesdays are ‘Twos-days’ – pay R75 for one ticket and get two! Bookings through the Baxter Box Office or Computicket on 083 915 8000.
